Tsunami Complete Rebuild
November of 2009
After many years in a trailor in Princeton, MN; Tsunami was removed and damages were started to be assessed.
In January of 2010 we started the process of pulling skins and inspecting damage of the aircraft. After our initial inspection we have found that the aft fuselage has very little damage.
In February/March we have concentrated on the tail feathers. They are completely disassemble, cleaned for those parts that we cold re-use. New parts are now being re built. We have found a local company that is able to do our larger pieces of shearing and bending for the spar.
Materials for the project are being sot out and accumulated.
The fuselage/fire wall mounts have been cracked checked. We will be able to use 3 out of the 4 mounts. The fourth mount is currently being manufactured at a local machine shop out of 7075 T73 hi strength aluminum.
We are currently looking for 2024 T3 angle; 3” x 1 ½” x 3/16” thick. We need 80 feet of this.
The vertical tail, the fuselage side formers and the horizontal we are using the original formers and jigging to rebuild them. All of the vertical ribs are done. The rear and front spar are done. We are shaping the leading edge for the vertical. We will have to dissemble everything for heat treat which we plan to do before final assemble.
Our volunteers night is Thursday and on Saturdays starting at 9:00 am. We do have a small crew working on the aircraft during the week. If you are interested in helping out please call ahead. (763)631-1500 or (612)616-8665.
